NUDGINGS – November 2013

BECAUSE YOU ASKED…..

Twenty-one years ago next month the first issue of the NUDGINGS newsletter was mailed to a few friends who had expressed an interest in helping the starving native people of Haiti who were living on less than $1.00 a day. As a sub heading, one line was included that read, “Sent forth with the hope that some readers will feel the nudge to keep praying, keep trusting, keep going.” Some have felt the nudge. How do I know? Because I was one who felt the nudge to keep going when I saw the poverty of the devastated Haitians and the deplorable condition in which some were existing. To some of us the effort necessary to help them seemed almost overwhelming but we determined to “keep going”. Later, when the earthquake killed more than 220,000 and three times that many left without a roof over their heads friends in different parts of the world (many on the west coast) wrote saying that they too had felt the nudge. Bibles, Gospel literature, food, water, medicines, clothes, etc. were shipped or carried into Haiti by Gospel messengers. Hundreds have been brought to the Lord and now Peter Aceti, and Alfred and Stephen Adams, have been nudged to visit Haiti. They expect to be leaving on the 16th of this month for a six day fact-finding visit and to encourage the new believers in their efforts to reach out to fellow Haitians.

Lord willing, they also hope to cross the border into the Dominican Republic because a host of Haitians are now living in the D.R. and have been used to establish a number of church groups. DNS has been able to help financially with building programs in the D.R. so while they are away we are going to “keep praying,, keep trusting and keep going”. JHA

NEWS FROM THE FIELD…

Zambia:

A note from Ken Wagler

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

Phil. 4:18 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus, has taken on fresh meaning to those of us on the well drilling committee as we see how the Lord has provided for the purchase of another 15 wells, pumps and casing, just ordered this week for the fall containers to be shipped from MSC Canada. I am in Zambia until November 23, Lord willing. The first thing on the agenda was to get the new sawmill (Wood Miser), which has just arrived, up and running, and then spend the remainder of the time drilling wells. We have many requests for wells mainly at schools, villages and an orphanage in the Sakeji area. This being the end of the dry season it is the only time we can safely transport the drilling

machines to this area, so we hope to be able to get the work done and get the machine back out before the roads become too flooded. So far, we have repaired five wells at Chitokoloki and plan to move both well drilling rigs to Sakeji-Ikelenge area where we will be drilling three more wells, one at an orphanage, one at the Sakeji guest house and another for a missionary that built her house out in the bush. If all goes well, we will then move back to Chitokoloki to drill some more wells before heading home. We so appreciate your prayerful and practical support of this work and your continued interest. Once again THANK YOU for partnering together with us in this, HIS work.

Yours in His service, on behalf of the well committee, Ken Wagler

From Gordon Hanna

We are very blessed to have with us 2 of our Canadian co-workers Don McKay and Ken Wagler. These two men and the teams that come with them from time to time have been a real blessing to the Lord’s work over quite a number of years. Ken is currently working on the fantastic new Wood Miser that just arrived the week before Ken, shipped from Canada, and now in full operation cutting trees into planks. It seems that we can never get enough lumber and this excellent machine will replace the hundreds of hours of hand sawing trees into planks. Some of you have asked if this takes jobs away from the locals, and you can rest assured it does not. We still buy any wood brought to us, and in some ways this will help them as they can cut down trees, but it is very difficult for them to saw the logs into planks.

Don has been working flat out attempting to rectify several electrical issues and problem solving some load balances that have been causing the generator to overheat and shut down. With all the electrical upgrades and improvements, it is truly amazing how we can maintain a full modern hospital in the middle of the African bush where we have no access to grid power. Last week the hospital was as full as it has ever been with dozens of patients stretched out on mattresses on the floors in all Wards and even the corridors.

Don has also brought us a new PA broadcast system that will be able to reach the entire mission station through an FM bandwidth frequency. We have tested it and it works great.
